Cardiopulmonary Solutions

Cardiopulmonary

CPB (cardiopulmonary by-pass) is a form of ECC (extracorporeal circulation) that allows the HLM (heart-lung machine) to replace temporarily the function of the heart (pump blood) and lungs (oxygenate blood), to provide a bloodless and stable surgical field during cardiac surgery procedures such as CABG (coronary artery by-pass grafting), valve repair or replacement, aneurysms, and heart transplant.

The CPB circuit, attentively managed by perfusionists, consist of many parts, including: pumps, oxygenator, reservoir, cannulae, perfusion tubing systems (PTS) and heat exchanger.
